about

Film on the Rocks Yao Noi aspires to become an alternative platform upon which different worlds converge in order to start a dialogue with not only each other, but also the environment, human and natural, with which it co-exists.

Film on the Rocks Yao Noi will be 4 days and 3 nights of sharing experiences. Dictated by nature, the screenings will be informed by the tides, the activities will embrace Yao Noi and her neighbouring islands, whilst conversation will stem from interaction with the locale. Tilda Swinton, Cultural Activist and Producer and Apichatpong Weerasethakul, Filmmaker and Winner of the 2010 Palme d’Or will curate the first Film on the Rocks Yao Noi. Ms. Swinton and Mr. Weerasethakul will present film titles to be screened on the rocks of Phanga Bay, under the stars and curate the activities and conversation that will take place. In addition, Film on the Rocks Yao Noi will be hosting residencies each year at Six Senses Yao Noi. This year, filmmaker, Lucrecia Martel was the filmmaker in residence and her work will be premiered at Film on the Rocks Yao Noi.

Apichatpong Weerasethakul and Tilda Swinton have introduced a concept called “Message in a Bottle” where the Programme will be curated from these Messages, thus purely the participants will build the first edition of Film on the Rocks Yao Noi. Guests are asked to bring their own “message in a bottle” which can be anything, a film, a book, a sculpture, a painting, or even a performance. The book and film will be preserved in the “Message in a Bottle Library” which will be replicated it for the local townsfolk.

The first edition of Film on the Rocks Yao Noi will take place from March
